Now What?
You've held a successful gathering and your neighbors are ready to work together, so now what do you do? Here are some ideas:
- Join or form a neighborhood association
- Create a neighborhood website to keep everyone up to date on neighborhood activities, political actions that concern the neighborhood, important events in neighbors' lives, volunteer opportunities, etc. Visit http://www.ourcommons.us for a simple neighborhood organizing tool.
- Many cities and towns have neighborhood grant programs or non profit organizations that provide grants or tools for neighborhood projects. Find out if your city or town has a neighborhood grant program by googling your town's name and neighborhood grants.
- Create a neighborhood newsletter
- Design and order neighborhood t-shirts, hats, mugs, etc.
- Arrange to host speakers on topics of interest to the neighborhood
- Set up a tutoring or mentoring program for youth
- Make a commitment to participate in community service projects throughout the year
