Collaboration Development Specialists for the National Neighborhood Day AmeriCorps*VISTA Program

Strengthen communities nationwide by working at an organization committed to building social capital, civic participation, and community connectedness. National Neighborhood Day seeks Collaboration Development Specialists (AmeriCorps*VISTA members) who are creative and passionate about social change.

The focus of the NND AmeriCorps*VISTA program will be to build sustainable collaborations with Rhode Island organizations that serve low-income communities. The Collaboration Development Specialists will identify, encourage and coach organizations focused on poverty alleviation, community service, and community preparedness to use NND as a vehicle for advancing their missions. In this way the Collaboration Development Specialists will create a ‘laboratory’ within the state of Rhode Island for building models of engagement that optimize the use of NND in the advancement of education, health, community preparedness, and other poverty alleviation methods.

Responsibilities:

- Review current collaborators and identify potential collaborators that are focused on economic development, asset building, and neighborhood revitalization in low-income communities in RI. Know their missions, visions, critical paths, and current challenges, with particular focus on overlap between the NND mission and the collaborator’s mission.

- Create a contact management system for new and existing collaborators that outlines contact points, summary of discussions, and next steps/follow-up.

- Design specific programs to propose to current and potential collaborators with emphasis on activities that communicate their mission to their constituents on NND.

- Coach organizations on application of best practices around NND events and ongoing NND best practices for maintaining the connections throughout the year to ensure continued engagement with and by individuals.

- Identify 1-2 lead collaborator(s) of each type of nonprofit agency that will work intensively with NND to develop and test market programs that may then be expanded to other similarly focused organizations.

- Market the programs that were successfully test-marketed to additional organizations.

- Work with lead collaborators to develop a feedback system to measure the impact of NND events on their organizations and on their constituents; track positive changes that occur after NND, and implement lessons learned for following years.
